SOUNDS
OF CARIBANA COME TO TORONTO PEARSON
July 21, 2009
TORONTO—
On Thursday July 23, passengers
arriving at Toronto Pearson from around
the world will be transported by the sounds
of the Caribbean, as they are greeted
by steel pan drums.
The St. Jamestown Youth Centre Steel Orchestra
will perform pop, jazz and reggae songs,
infused with a distinctive island flavour.
As part of the Greater Toronto Airports
Authority’s (GTAA) partnership with
Scotiabank Caribana, the performance is
designed to let visitors know that the
festival starts at the airport.
Toby Lennox, Vice President of Corporate
Affairs and Communications at the GTAA,
comments “Nothing says summer in
Toronto like Caribana. We’re proud
to support this signature event and to
bring a piece of it to the airport. These
kids are amazing performers and I think
travellers will be pleasantly surprised
to see a live show in Terminal 1.”
The St. Jamestown Youth Centre Steel Orchestra
performs live in the International Arrivals
Hall of Terminal 1 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The GTAA is the non–share, not for
profit authority that operates Toronto
Pearson. All revenue generated by the
GTAA is reinvested back into the airport.
In 2008, 32.3 million passengers travelled
through Toronto Pearson.
