  STRESS
Marilyn St. Hill- Super Fitness Model/Spokesperson

Consider your stress level. Where do you place on the stress scale? The anxious feeling controls everyone at one time or another. Stress can arise from bad situations, but you can also feel stress from good sitautions. Often, change in one's life creates stress because a lot of people see change as a
negative before they can see the positive. How do you prevent stress in your daily life?

WHAT CAN HELP STRESS?
Stress, "a subjective sensation associated with varied symptoms that differ for each of us." (www.stress.org) Stress can cause physical symptoms if the feeling lasts over a long period of time. For this reason, it is better to do things in your daily life that will automatically combat stress.

1) Take your vitamins!
* the best vitamins to take to relieve stress are calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin B complex.

2) Practice breathing exercises.
* inhale peace, exhale stress

3) Add music to your day.
*listening to music has proven health and anti-stress benefits

4) Stay Positive.
* people who stay positive have better health, less stress and more luck

5) Say "No".
* decreasing your daily task plate will relieve stress all on it's own.

EAT YOUR STRESS AWAY!
Food! There are several different foods that have stress-relieving benefits. Blueberries, which are also superfoods is the number one choice! Diet plays a crucial role in your overall well-being and specifically your level of stress. You can also chow down on:

*Beef
*cantaloupe
*cottage cheese
*milk
*fortified breakfest cereal
*sushi
*whole-grain rice or pasta
*broccoli
*fish
*almonds
*peppermint

Keep in mind, if your diet is high in protein, high amounts of protein increase levels of stress-causing dopamine and nonepinephrine in the brain. Therefore, you need to supplement foods into your diet that will help to counteract that.

You can also eliminate foods from your diet to help relieve stress. Tea, coffee and other caffeinated beverages should be reduced or eliminated. Stay away from fried and fatty foods. Also, foods derived from animals, some can help relieve stress, however you can't go overboard.

SIGNS AND TIPS
Stress affects everyone differently. Here are some signs that you may be stressed:

*anxiety
*back pain
*constipation/diarrhea
*depression
*fatigue
*weight gain or loss
*upset stomach
*stiff neck
*relationship problems
*high blood pressure
*shortness of breath
*insomnia

Always consult a doctor to confirm or deny what you're thinking. Never self-diagnose. Also...change the way you operate things in your life. For instance, stop worrying about things you can't control. You will save plenty of time and energy. Next, plan for upcoming events. If you have a test, or a meeting, make sure you are prepared. You will feel more confident and that will help you stay calm.

As mentioned earlier, people tend to look at change as something bad. If you always look at the positive side of change, you will avoid unnecessary stress. Another great thing to do is talk to someone. If
you are confronted with an issue you just can't seem to handle, ask someone else for advice. A good friend, relative or counsellor can suggest things you may not have thought of.

In the end, you control many factors that affect your stress level. Keep these tips in mind and you will find your life much happier and less stressful!
